A bicycle parts catalog sorted by what decides the fit, not by brand.

Seven part groups for road, city and kids' bikes. Each one below carries the spec that has to match, the price it starts from and the page with every line. Nothing here goes in a cart. You send the bike, we check it and reply within one business day.

Part groups

Seven groups, and the number that matters in each.

Every group has one or two figures that decide whether a part fits. Get those right and the rest is preference. Get them wrong and the part goes back in the bag.

01

Drivetrain

Bike drivetrain parts for 8 to 12 speed: chains, cassettes and freewheels, rear derailleurs and hangers, bottom brackets and bearings. The group where most wrong orders happen, because a 10-speed and an 11-speed chain look the same until they skip.

Chains, cassettes, derailleurs
  • Decides fitspeed count, freehub
  • Chain widths5.2 / 5.5 / 5.9 / 6.5–7.1 mm
  • FreehubsHG, HG road, XDR, Microspline
  • Chainsfrom $24
  • Cassettesfrom $35
  • Derailleurs, BBsafter photo or measure
02

Wheels, hubs and spokes

Complete wheelsets in 700c, 650b, 20 in and 16 in, plus hubs, spokes and brass nipples. A wheel has to match the frame three ways at once: ISO size, axle standard and brake type. Spokes are cut to a length we calculate from rim ERD and the hub flange figures.

Wheelsets by ISO size
  • Decides fitISO, axle, brake
  • ISO range203 to 622
  • AxlesQR or thru-axle
  • Wheelsetsfrom $140 a pair
  • Spokesper set of 36, cut
03

Tyres and tubes

Road and city tyres from 700x25c to 700x40c, kids' sizes 20 to 24 in, inner tubes, valves and rim tape. We size tyres by ISO number and frame clearance, and tubes by rim depth and the hole drilled in the rim. The sidewall marking you read off at home is the most useful thing you can send.

700x28c road tires and tubes
  • Decides fitISO, clearance, valve
  • Presta lengths48 / 60 / 80 mm
  • Beadsfolding or wire
  • Tyresfrom $22
  • Tubesfrom $7
04

Brakes

Disc brake pads and rotors, rim brake pads and calipers, levers and hydraulic bleed kits. Pads are matched by caliper model, rotors by diameter and mount, calipers by reach. Hydraulic parts wait until you name the fluid on the lever.

Disc brake pads and rotors
  • Decides fitcaliper model, mount
  • Rotors140 / 160 / 180 mm
  • Caliper reach39–49 or 47–57 mm
  • Disc pad setfrom $18
  • Rim pads, pairfrom $12
05

Cockpit

Bar tape, grips, stems and headset spacers. Tape comes in cork, synthetic and leather-look from 2.5 to 3.5 mm thick. Grips fit 22.2 mm flat bars. Stems are picked by bar clamp, length and steerer size, in that order.

Bar tape, grips and stems
  • Decides fitclamp diameter
  • Bar clamps25.4 / 31.8 / 35 mm
  • Bar tapefrom $16
  • Grips or stemfrom $14
06

Consumables

Inner cables, housing, ferrules, chain lube, grease and brake fluid. The cheap parts that make expensive ones work. A brake cable will not pass through shift housing and a shift cable in brake housing feels like mush, so we sort both by diameter first.

Bike cable and housing kit
  • Decides fitcable diameter, fluid
  • Inner cable1.1 shift / 1.5–1.6 brake
  • Housing4 mm and 5 mm
  • Lube and greasefrom $9
07

Small accessories

Lights, bells, bottle cages, fenders, racks and kickstands. Small, but each one bolts to something. Fenders need clearance over the tyre, racks need eyelets where the rack expects them, and a bell needs the right bar diameter.

Lights, fenders and racks
  • Decides fiteyelets, clearance
  • Lights and bellsfrom $11
  • Fenders, racksafter eyelet check

Fit checklist

Six things we check before any part leaves the desk.

These are the columns in every reply. Read the ones that apply off your bike before you write and we can usually quote in one go.

  1. Speed count. Count the cogs on the back wheel. Ten cogs means a 10-speed chain at 5.9 mm, eleven means 5.5 mm. Single-speed and internal hub bikes run a 1/8 in or 3/32 in chain.
  2. Freehub standard. Shimano HG, HG 11-speed road, SRAM XDR or Microspline. Older city bikes and most kids' bikes use a thread-on freewheel instead.
  3. Brake mount. Rim caliper, V-brake, post mount or flat mount, plus the rotor size if it is disc. For hydraulic systems, the fluid printed on the lever.
  4. Axle. Quick release or thru-axle, and the spacing if you know it. A thru-axle wheel will not go in a QR frame.
  5. ISO wheel size. The small number on the tyre sidewall: 622 for 700c, 406 for most 20 in, 305 for most 16 in. The big inch number misleads more often than it helps.
  6. Valve type. Presta or Schrader, and the rim depth, so the valve reaches past the rim far enough to get a pump head on it.
