Accessibility statement
Every part page, table and form here works by keyboard alone, and where it does not, the phone does.
The bicycle parts catalog is built to WCAG 2.2 level AA. We test it ourselves, with a keyboard, a screen reader and a phone at 320 pixels wide. This page says what passes and what still needs work. If the site gets in your way, section 07 has another route to a quote.
§ 01
The standard we hold the site to
WCAG 2.2 at level AA, across every page including the legal ones.
We call the site partly conformant. Most of it meets AA; a few items in section 05 do not yet. We would rather say that than claim full conformance and have you find the gap on a Friday afternoon with a bike in pieces.
This statement covers xervilo.com: the catalogue, the seven part group pages, the three by-bike pages, the chain calculator, the inquiry form, the chat widget and the legal pages.
§ 02
What works today
The navigation, forms and chat are all usable without a mouse.
- A skip link is the first thing Tab reaches on every page.
- The Catalogue menu opens with Enter or Space, and Escape closes it. Below 1024 pixels it becomes a full-height drawer with the same behaviour.
- Every focusable element shows a gold outline at least 2 pixels thick.
- Buttons, links and form controls are at least 44 by 44 pixels, so they are hittable with a thumb or a trembling hand.
- Each form field has a visible label. Errors appear in text next to the field, not only as a red border, and say what to fix: "Give us a phone number or an email, one is enough."
- Body text on cream measures above 12:1 contrast. Oxblood headings on cream measure above 10:1.
- Text can be zoomed to 200 percent and the layout reflows to one column without sideways scrolling, down to a 320 pixel screen.
- Every photograph has alt text describing the part in it. Icons next to text are hidden from screen readers so labels are not read twice.
- The cookie bar does not block the page or trap focus.
§ 03
Spec tables and the chain calculator
The reference tables are real tables, and the calculator states its working in text.
Chain width, freehub standard, ISO bead-seat diameter and clamp diameter tables are built with table headers and captions, so a screen reader announces "11-speed, 5.5 mm" as a row, not as loose numbers. On a narrow screen a wide table scrolls inside its own box and can be reached and scrolled with the keyboard.
The chain length calculator uses labelled number inputs with their units written beside them. When the link count changes, the result is announced. An out-of-range value, say a 600 mm chainstay, shows an error in text under the field. The formula, L = 2C + F/4 + R/4 + 1, is written out on the page so you can do the sum by hand if you prefer.
§ 04
Motion and moving text
If your system asks for reduced motion, nothing on this site moves.
The running strips of part names on the home page pause on hover and when anything inside them has keyboard focus. With reduced motion turned on, they stop completely and the names wrap into a still list. Headings that slide in on scroll appear in place instead. There is no autoplay video and nothing flashes.
§ 05
Known gaps
Three things we know fall short, and what we are doing about each.
| Issue | Effect | Workaround |
|---|---|---|
| Chat replies | New messages from the desk are announced, but the poll runs every 5 seconds, so a reply may arrive a few seconds after it was sent. | Use email or phone if timing matters. |
| Photographs of parts | Alt text describes the subject but cannot carry every detail, such as the cog count on a cassette. | The spec rows beside each photo hold those numbers in text. |
| Ad platform tags | Third-party scripts, loaded only after you allow cookies, are outside our control. | Declining cookies keeps them off the page. |
§ 06
How we test
By hand, on real devices, before a page goes live.
Each page is checked with keyboard only, with NVDA on Windows and VoiceOver on iPhone and Mac, at browser zoom of 200 and 400 percent, and at widths of 320, 360, 414, 768, 1024, 1440 and 1920 pixels. Automated checkers run as well, but they miss things a person catches in a minute, like a focus order that jumps from the form to the footer.
§ 07
Other ways to send an inquiry
If the form fights you, skip it. A phone call gets the same check and the same reply.
Call +1 (565) 555-2353 Monday to Friday and read us the speed count and wheel size, or just describe the bike. Email [email protected] with whatever you have; a photo of the rear dropout answers half our questions. We can also send any page of this site, including the terms and privacy policy, as plain text by email.
§ 08
